Hui Hoʻoleimaluō was founded by Kamala Anthony (left), Manoa Johansen (middle), and Nāhōkū Kahana in 2014. We began by serving as an active learning curriculum-based laboratory and outdoor classroom for grades 3-12; facilitating community maintenance work events; and hosting the Waiuli Fest, an annual free community event. Since the inception of Hui Hoʻoleimaluō, we have hosted over 5,000 individuals (local and abroad) from community schools, youth groups, and universities. Activities include water quality, restoration of walls and mākāhā, fish count, measuring salinity, reintroduction of limu and fish, and planting a variety of Hawaiian canoe plants. Hui Hoʻoleimaluō currently focuses on Waiuli (Richardson’s Ocean Beach).
