Hui Hoʻoleimaluō

Hui Hoʻoleimaluō is an organization focusing on loko iʻa (Hawaiian fishpond) restoration in the ahupuaʻa of Waiākea on the South East Island of Hawaii. It provides opportunities for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) skill building, place based learning, and community engagement through the maintenance and management of loko iʻa ecosystems. Our work includes restoring native flora and fauna of the area, increasing cultural resources, and creating STEAM experiences that allow participants to build the skills needed to further pursue local STEAM studies. On a continuous basis, Hoʻoleimaluo engages with Hawaiian and local students of Hawaiʻi between grades 3-12 through outdoor-classroom learning while quarterly community events attract community participants of all ages and backgrounds.

MISSION

To nourish Hawaiʻi's loko iʻa (Hawaiian fishponds) through hands-on education, community advocacy, and place-based management of natural resources.

VISION

Thriving communities through thriving ecosystems.
